Meet our musicians

Daniel Tsui

Violin

Daniel Tsui, started learning violin at the age of 4. He currently holds degrees in Master of Music in Violin Performance, Bachelor of Computer Science and a minor in Applied Music Technology from the University of British Columbia. Daniel was under the tutelage of Professor Jasper Wood and was frequently appointed concertmaster at the UBC Symphony Orchestra during his time at UBC. His previous teachers include Corey Cerovsek, Tin Sun Pang, Lin Hui Chuang, Akira Nagai, the Associate Concertmaster Emeritus of Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Samuel Tsui, Vancouver Island Symphony Principal Second Violinist. Daniel currently performs as a violinist at the Vancouver Island Symphony and the Willingdon Church Orchestra and has performed and worked with notable artists including 2 Cellos, Il Divo, and Sarah Brightman.

Manti Poon

Viola

After moving to Vancouver, Manti Poon furthered his studies in viola performance with Professor David Harding at the University of British Columbia on full scholarship. Since then he has become a much sought-after musician.
Apart from holding the position of principal violist with the Vancouver Island Symphony Orchestra, he also performed with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Poon had collaborated with the members of the Pacific Rim, the Rose Gellert, the Koerner, the Vancouver, the Borealis, the Purcell and the Emerson String Quartets.
Mr. Poon had served on faculty at the Douglas College, the Kwantlen Polytechnic University, the Vancouver Academy of Music and the VSO School of Music. He is also the violin and viola instructor at West Point Grey Academy. Mr Poon coached and conducted the Vancouver Youth, the Surrey Youth, the Vancouver Academy Youth, the Coquitlam Youth and he is the Associate Conductor of the Intermediate Division at the Richmond Delta Youth Orchestra. Mr. Poon was also on faculty at UBC String Music Camp, Courtney Youth Music Camp, VAM Music Camp, North Shore Music Camp and MMM Music Camp in Washington State.

Minjee Yoon

Cello

Born in Incheon, South Korea, She completed her Bachelor of Music degree from the Kyung-won University in Korea and an Artist diploma from the Vancouver Academy of Music. After moving to Canada, She enjoyed two months participating in the NAC’s Institute of Orchestra Studies in the autumn of 2011, which allowed her the opportunity to perform of the National Art Centre Orchestra under the baton of Pinchas Zuckerman in Ottawa. She was previously the Section Cellist of Kitchener Waterloo Symphony Orchestra. Currently, she is the Principal Cellist of Vancouver Island Symphony Orchestra and performs as a substitute player with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

Samuel Tsui

Violin

Born in Hong Kong, Samuel Tsui began learning the violin at the age of 5 and continued his studies in Canada. He was awarded a full scholarship to further his music education at the University of British Columbia, attaining both his Bachelors and Masters degrees specializing in violin performance under the tutelage of Jasper Wood. Samuel serves as the Principal second violinist of the Vancouver Island Symphony since 2009. He has become a well sought-after violinist in western Canada, where he has been invited to perform and record for various high-profile occasions and has worked with notable artists including Michael Bublé, Mariah Carey, Andrea Bocelli, Sarah Brightman, Mary J. Blige, Il Divo, 2 Cellos and Hong Kong singer Alan Tam. Acquiring over a decade of teaching experience, Samuel has worked with students of all ages. He currently serves as faculty at VSO School Music as Violin Instructor. Samuel intensively prepares his students for all types of opportunities and caters to help achieve their goals. Under his instruction, his students have achieved marks of distinction in RCM examinations, participated in various music festivals, competed in the CMC and Kiwanis competitions, and have successfully auditioned for placements in youth symphonies, including the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra, VSO School of Music Youth String Ensembles, Richmond Delta Youth Orchestra, and Lions Gate Youth Orchestra.
